Under $200 is where birding binoculars stop compromising. Close focus drops from around 13 feet to between 5 and 6.5, eye relief reaches 17 mm and beyond, and field of view widens to 388 ft or more at 1,000 yards. The Celestron Nature DX is the safest pick in the band and the Vortex Diamondback HD the best all-rounder.

If you only read one sentence about binocular budgets, make it this: the money between $100 and $200 buys more improvement than the money between $250 and $1,000. The published figures show it plainly.
