Privacy policy

What this site collects, what it does not, and what actually happens when you click a buy link.

Last updated: 2 September 2026.

This page explains what happens to information when you visit The Gift Perch. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive, and it describes what the site actually does.

The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and there is nothing on this site behind a login.
  • We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get read. It is configured to measure pages and clicks, not people.
  • Clicking a buy link sets a cookie belonging to the retailer, not to us. That is how the affiliate program works.
  • If you use the contact form, we get your name, email and message by email so that we can reply.
  • We do not sell data, and we do not have data worth selling.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4. It records things like which pages were viewed, roughly where in the world the visit came from, whether the device was a phone or a desktop, and which buy links were clicked. That last one is recorded as an event so we can tell which recommendations people find useful.

Analytics data is processed by Google under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not use it to identify individuals, and we have no ability to link an analytics record to a name.

Cookies

The Gift PerchNothing. We set no cookies of our own.

The affiliate cookie is worth being specific about: it is set by the retailer once you arrive on their site, it lasts as long as their program specifies, and it means a purchase you make in that window may be attributed to us — including items we did not link to. That is standard for the Amazon Associates program and it is described further on the affiliate disclosure page.

The contact form

  • The form collects your name, email address, a subject and your message.
  • It is delivered to us by email. We do not store submissions in a database.
  • We use your email address to reply to you, and for nothing else.
  • There is a hidden field on the form and a timing check behind it, both of which exist purely to reject automated spam. Neither collects anything about you.
  • We keep correspondence for as long as it is useful to keep — typically a correction stays until the fix has shipped and been verified.

What we do not do

  • No accounts, no logins, no profiles.
  • No newsletter, and no mailing list. We do not have one to add you to.
  • No advertising networks and no retargeting pixels. There are no display ads on this site.
  • No selling or sharing of personal information to anyone, for any purpose.
  • No payment processing. We never see a card number, because nothing is bought here.

This site links out to retailers, manufacturers and organizations such as the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Once you follow a link you are on their site under their privacy policy, and we have no control over or visibility into what they collect.

Your choices

  1. Block analytics. Any content blocker or a browser with tracking protection will stop Google Analytics loading. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.
  2. Refuse the affiliate cookie. Do not click the buy links, or block third-party cookies. The site works either way — the specifications and the arithmetic are all on the page.
  3. Ask what we hold. If you have used the contact form and want to know what we still have, or want it deleted, email us and we will do it.

Children

This site is written for adults buying gifts, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will not quietly broaden what we collect and leave the date implying nothing happened.
