Smart bird feeder subscription costs

The number nobody in this category publishes clearly, worked out brand by brand — including a three-year total that is often larger than the feeder.

Bird Buddy charges $69.99 a year for Individual Premium and $98.99 for Family Premium, and its free tier still includes Photo and Sound ID, automatic photos and videos, live stream and pet alerts. Birdfy's free level allows 10 AI recognitions a day, 20-second clips and 30 days of cloud retention; it does not publish Plus or Pro prices. Kiwibit normally requires Premium for AI but sells Lifetime AI Included at its standard $239.99. FeatherSnap's Wi-Fi plan is reported at about $7 a month or $60 a year and is not published by the maker.

This is the most under-served question in the highest-value cluster on this site, and the reason is uncomfortable: two of the four brands here do not publish their subscription price anywhere a buyer can find it before purchase.

Everything below comes from each manufacturer's own pages, read on 2 September 2026, and where a figure is missing it is because the maker does not publish it. That absence is the finding.

What that table shows

  • The subscription can cost more than the feeder. Three years of Bird Buddy Individual Premium is $209.97 against $124.00 of hardware.
  • A lifetime option changes the ranking completely. Kiwibit's $239.99 with Lifetime AI Included is cheaper over three years than a $124 feeder on an annual plan — and it is the sharper camera.
  • The cheapest genuinely usable option is Bird Buddy's free tier at $124.00 total. It still identifies birds, records automatically and streams live.
  • Two brands cannot be costed at all, because they do not publish their prices. If you are giving one of these as a gift, you cannot tell the recipient what it will cost them.

  2. If you do want automatic AI, price the lifetime option first. It is often cheaper than three years of an annual plan, and sometimes free.
  3. Check the variant, not the product name. Birdfy's AI Lifetime and Lite are variants of the same listing, and the difference is the entire ongoing cost.
  4. If the price is not published, treat that as a data point. You would not buy a phone plan whose price was only visible after purchase.
  5. Remember the free option that costs nothing at all. Merlin Bird ID from the Cornell Lab identifies birds by photo and by sound at no cost, on any phone, and its Sound ID covers 540 species in the US and Canada.
