Buy glass, and buy the one that comes apart most easily. Nectar ferments quickly in warm weather and a feeder that is awkward to disassemble simply does not get cleaned often enough. Glass takes hot water, does not cloud or hold smells, and survives repeated washing in a way plastic does not.

This is the one category on the site where maintenance beats every other consideration. A neglected nectar feeder grows mold and ferments sugar, and both are harmful to the birds it is meant to help — which makes an unusable-to-clean feeder actively worse than no feeder.
